These birds were happy to pose for a photo on the sea wall that protects the Royal Botanic Gardens from Sydney Harbour, otherwise known as Port Jackson. The birds are Masked Lapwings or Spur-winged Plovers, which are native to Australia.
Walsh Bay is on Sydney Harbour, stretching between Dawes Point and Millers Point. Pier 2 and Pier 3 of the Walsh Bay wharves, were originally part of Sydney’s port facilities. The old warehouses on the wharves here have been converted into theatres, galleries, offices, hotels, apartments, restaurants, cafes and shops.
A harbour pilot boat makes its way sunset across Port Jackson. The harbour pilots are used to guide ships through the appropriate channels to their designated berths within a port. The Sydney Ports Corporation is located in the eastern suburb of Port Botany, on the shore of Botany Bay. The facilities at Port Botany consist of two container terminals with six container vessel berths and a bulk liquids berth complemented by container support businesses, bulk liquid berth storage facilities and private berths at Kurnell.

A view of Jones Bay Wharf, in the inner city suburb of Pyrmont, with Barangaroo and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the distance. Jones Bay Wharf consists of Piers 19-21 of Pyrmont Wharves. This marina on Jones Bay sits beside Pier 21. The wharf and warehouse buildings were originally built in 1919, as part of Sydney’s port facilities. After those port facilities were relocated to Port Botany, the buildings were redeveloped in 2003 into commercial space.
