These artworks, located around Circular Quay and at The Rocks, were part of the Vivid Sydney festival. “Melody” (top) was created by Singapore’s Sun Yu-Li. This free flowing ribbon form, beams light from inside its perforated stainless steel sculptural frame. It implies the rhyme of Sydney Harbour in Circular Quay and the music emanating from the Sydney Opera House as part of the magical precinct you are located in. “aLf” or “artificial Light form” (bottom) was created by Australia’s Victoria Bolton, Kim Nguyen Ngoc, Catherine Kuok, Guy Hanson. It is described as an artificial biomorphic entity that glows when you physically interact with him. He sleeps with a subdued blue pulse when he feels alone and when awakened by your presence engages in a visual conversation with a boisterous red pulse.
Sydney Opera House
As part of the Vivid Sydney festival, this bench has been installed on the Circular Quay foreshore, leading up to the Sydney Opera House. The artwork is called “C/C” and is created by Singapore’s Angela Chong. It is illuminated at night with low energy, colour changing LED lights. I thought it was worth photographing during the day because it has such a spectacular backdrop. It’s a shame the view was partly blocked by the hoarding around the escalators which are being repaired.
The view from Campbells Cove wharf at The Rocks, out across Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House. Campbells Cove is named after merchant Robert Campbell, who took up residence on land bought here in 1798, building warehouses and private wharves.
This bench in the Royal Botanic Gardens provides a good view of Farm Cove on Sydney Harbour. The seawall surrounding it is constructed of large sandstone blocks. It is bordered by a pedestrian walkway that runs from the Sydney Opera House through the Royal Botanic Gardens to the Domain parklands and Mrs Macquarie’s Chair.
I had a great stay in Sydney while I was there last week for work. Sydney is such a beautiful city and every chance I get to sneak out to the big city is well worth the trip along the east coast of Australia.
We had a two-day seminar in the center of Sydney and some other meetings but luckily also enough time to enjoy the great weather.
We had a business lunch in Darling Harbour, one of my favourite places in Sydney because of its fine view of the Opera House and the coastal area of the city.
It’s also the perfect place to head to if you want to go for a stroll since the Royal Botanic Gardens is adjacent to the Sydney Opera House and a great place to enjoy a picnic and look out over the water.
Besides work we had time for some shopping and other fun things which was really good for the atmosphere within our team.
